BETT Awards shortlist for E-Assessment, Activote,Promethean

Activote is Promethean’s integrated personal response system that is designed to encourage whole class participation and enhance learning. By enabling each pupil to “have a voice”, the opinions, thought processes or feelings of a whole class can instantly be shared and addressed accordingly.

Have you used Activote in the classroom and if so how successful was it in including all the class.

The neat thing about Promethean's Activote is how well is integrated into their whiteboard software. When I develop lessons with Activstudio, the Activote icon is right there on my toolbar. I keep the Activotes out on the desk at all times so my students can partipate in simple polling when we have class discussions. Plus they have so many lessons already made on their website Promethean Planet! It's fun to share with others!

I love the fact that students have named pods so that you can assess their learning over time. As a secondary teacher I teach over 350 students a week. Its great to be able to re-edit class lists as they change after the summer. The students find them interesting to use and never abuse them as the respect the learning potential of these tools and they really are not just a quick quiz. I use them to check understanding of learning objectives - a secret response is very telling, and to stimulate discussion. They are an extreamly valuable tool.

I have used ACTIVote for 4 years in Primary school. I have had successful voting sessions in every age group from Nursery to Y6. Part of the power of this tool lies in the ease of use. Children have devices on hand all day every day and engage in regular voting sessions, ad-hoc or planned. As a tool for Assessment for Learning, it can't be rivalled. It allows the teacher to instantly identify those children needing support, those needing consolidation and those needing extension at the click of a button. The children love to use them and they are all involved and participating in the learning.

Activote has changed the way I teach. It is a fabulous tool, packed full of features and it is exciting to use.

ActiVote is a wonderful new concept. The children demand to use it (!), I find a valuable assessment aid, and observers deem it excellent.

I am just getting to grips with the digital pad that also works with the Activote receiver, but the children want to use it all the time; recreationally or educationally. We have the technology!
