As an International visitor the breadth of product and professional development available in one location is amazing. The seminar program, ie, choices I made to see were excellent. There was only one which disappointed and I think over the 4 days I attended about 8. The work being done at the Futurelab is remarkable and talking to Dan Sutch on the stand revealed a researcher who was keen to find out about experiences not only in the UK.
The emphasis by speakers I visited on putting students at the centre of practice as opposed to the accepted role of teacher as powerful centre is where I am coming from and that is my mission as a school leader. To this end the Island of Scilley project showcased at the Dfes Stand by Dan Buckley was a lighthouse for me.
The software I thought that was inspirational came from Shoofly and Shakespeare works, I'd also like to see more of Podville by Magic Lantern. All seemed to be aware of student needs and interests.
The Apple stand is always a great drawcard, no matter how much people might want to bag Steve Jobs they are amazing, for a technomoron such as I it makes me relax when I see how easy it is for ICT to be used by students to create original pieces of work and be able to share them with the world.
I don't like restrictive learning platforms that work on the premise students aren't responsible and should be shielded from the world. Let's let them be responsible creative thinkers and communicators both at home and at school.
I do applaud BETT, however, because there is such a smorgasboard and it does cater for all levels of interest and application.
See my post above. There are a few videos of products I thought really useful at BETT 2007 up at www.L4L.co.uk. Feel free to download them and share them with people who couldn't make it or colleagues back at school.
